The 10th edition of the HandbikeBattle in Austria last week was a great success; 115 participants with a disability finished the climb of 20 km and with 867 height meters on arm power!
The HandbikeBattle is a handbike race for people with disabilities. Every year new teams from Dutch rehabilitation centers participate in the HandbikeBattle, as well as individual participants and some foreign participants. The climb to the Kaunertaler gletscher in Tyrol in Austria is a great challenge for handbikers of all levels. For some pure competition, for others the sporting challenge of the year.
The mission of the HandbikeBattle is to let people with physical disabilities experience what extreme physical challenges do to them, to give them power to live up to their dreams and improve the quality of life.
The benefits of participation are shown in ongoing research (https://www.handbikebattle.nl/science/?lang=en), and of course known from all personal inspiring stories.
